No, not served on a plate, on a tray…next time I might just ask for a trough to eat out of- no fork needed. Little did Irina know, but as I watched the artist work, she was making my very first Crepe.
I’m collaborating with a military family that wants to have a single family home within a short work commute. With those parameters in place we initially set out for Glen Burnie to see what’s what. I got out that way early enough to try something new and delicious: Irina’s Crepe Cafe. My favorite part about this experience, was that when I walked in, I was greeted by a friendly face who I could only presume was Irina. It was. You could see the sense of pride she had in her business and that she made conversation with each patron. Quick take away for me was that they are proud to be family friendly. I didn’t have my little monsters with me, but I know that they would be greeted with a smile and not a deep breath preparing for the tornado.
Sam Cooke’s ‘Bring it on Home to Me‘ was lulling in the background as I sip fresh coffee from my mustard yellow cup. I felt like I was in my Nana’s kitchen. I didn’t want to be too eager, but the setup inside does allow you to watch your Crepe being made; so I did. I asked her to please make me the most classic delight she sells. Four words: banana, strawberry, nutella, heaven. When I make it to the pearly gates, I hope Jesus and Mary are there making me a fresh one of these.
Unfortunately, I couldn’t stay there eating all day so I met my clients at property numero uno. For our first round out I had 4 listings selected; some near the Marley Station Mall and one closer to Ferndale off of rt 100. All of the properties were under $275,000 with a minimum of 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, 1200 sq feet and lot size of 0.25 acre and above. For any of you living outside of GB your jaw just dropped at those parameters. Now, the main concern for my buyer is having an easy commute so they have more time with their kids instead of notorious Maryland traffic and absolutely no town homes. Well, this is Maryland, so detached on a budget can be a unicorn; which makes it that much more satisfying when I stalk the market and deliver several options easily.
We drove through ample developments of new construction. There are a lot of up-and-coming areas where investors are flourishing (which always gives the impression it is a good place to search) but conversely, closer to downtown, 1940’s style Cape Cod homes on quarter acre lots under $300,000- no HOA for the win.
Glen Burnie is an area that is close to Ft. Meade, minutes from Baltimore but still close enough to the major highways. You can be in Ellicott City in 20 minutes, Odenton MARC in 20 minutes and the Iron Rooster in Annapolis in about 20 minutes. You can get a detached house without paying for the zip code and most importantly, it has a feeling of home with the more maturely constructed neighborhoods. This town is crawling with amazing places to dine while supporting local businesses. Get your Crepe on!
